The present & future
To start a new business in the current climate, some would class as madness. I always remember growing up and being told, a business that can survive a recession or down turn should survive. Well the end of 2025, start of 2026 is certainly throwing everything at us.
Why the band and why now. Well having been on holiday a few times, we used the pegs. We went through several sets. Most were marked recyclable, yet having spoken to a member of the local recycling team, they told me how they have to recycle at speed. Any hard plastic recyclable or not is deemed non recyclable, simply because they don't have the time to inspect it for the correct recycling information. This and the fact that the pegs didn't actually work, rusted and were easily broken, got me thinking. I've spoken to people who used the thin bands and they were unhappy with them. Sweating spots, hair trapped, there was no one that we met really liked them. It was an end to a need.
Coming from a textile background i knew i had the answer. By the next holiday i was more atuned to what people were using. I noted men spending hours lining their favourite sports towels up whilst the wife readied the children for a day at the pool. I noted the time taken to sort themselves out. I knew the band would cut this time down and there would be no sweating spots in the hairline to complain about, due to our fabric construction. Oh and no pegs going ping. Or muttering under their breath as the pegs failed to hold the towel in place.
The very next holiday we had our prototype ready (a cruise what better way to test it for holding onto the bed & towel) it was a success tested on the top deck. Less people but less shelter from the wind, a plus plus. So we Patented and branded it.
Today we have some 2000 bands in stock and we have started selling. Everyone so far has commented on how good it is, and its nice to have something that reflects how they feel/want to feel on holiday, be it “And Relax”, “My Favourite Place” or a flag as they are patriotic (oh the Welsh flag is the best seller so far).
We are growing at a steady and controlled rate. We are all guilty of ignoring advice, but sometimes people speak with experience and we should take note. I came across a man that was the accountant for a well known brand, that grew too fast and is now liquidated. His words of advice bounce around in my head every day. Feet on the ground head out the clouds, grow organically not to fast that you lose control of both your supply and delivery chain. Wise words.

Only you can make that decision, but if your conscious about the world we live in, then have a look, we're sustainable, reusable, washable and have a design we think will fit all. Celebratory, Animal & Military prints, Humorous etc. All made here in the UK, keeping our CO2 as low as we can, employing locally, making a sustainable product.
Oh the Tcboo name. Plain and simple. “There can be only one”. Just in case someone wonders in years to come.
